POINT ARENA, Mendocino County — October 23, 2026. A proposed campground at Arena Cove has reached an important municipal planning milestone, but approval of a project does not mean the campground is open. The City of Point Arena lists Resolution 2026-16 in its official document archive, adopting Coastal Development Permit CDP 2025-04 and Use Permit UP 2025-01 for a proposed campground. A separate Resolution 2026-15 documents the associated California Environmental Quality Act determination.
Why two types of permits?
The coastal permit addresses proposed development under rules applicable to California’s coastal zone, while a use permit can impose zoning or operating conditions. Together, they are planning decisions. They do not by themselves establish that construction contracts are signed, funding is complete, inspections have passed or visitor reservations can be accepted.
Where is the proposed project?
Arena Cove is the waterfront area of Point Arena, historically associated with the pier, fishing, coastal access and marine conditions. Development proposals in this location can raise questions about coastal access, public facilities, wastewater, traffic, erosion, storms, emergency services and environmental protection. The city’s published permit resolutions and supporting studies, rather than a travel website’s description, should determine the project’s approved scope.
What happens after approval?
Applicants may still need to satisfy project conditions and secure building, engineering, public health or other agency permissions. Some projects may require separate construction funding and bids. Any additional coastal or environmental approvals, appeal periods or changes to the proposal should be verified in the city’s records before interpreting this approval as a firm opening date.
How residents can review the documents
Look for the city’s 2026-16 CDP Adoption — Campground and 2026-15 CEQA Determination, plus the earlier public hearing for CDP 2025-04, in the municipal documents archive. The public may ask Point Arena planning staff for the latest permit conditions, maps, environmental documents and status of any construction plans.
