POINT ARENA, Mendocino County — October 23, 2026. Point Arena’s municipal documents now include a decision affecting future wastewater service charges. The City Council lists Resolution 2026-14, Wastewater Fees, establishing rates covering 2026 through 2030, alongside a 2026 Sewer Rate Adjustment Report. These documents are available through the city’s official public archive.
Why is a rate study important?
A wastewater system needs to finance collection, treatment, equipment replacement, safety inspections, debt obligations and ongoing operations. A city may consider multi-year rate adjustments to reflect those needs. The adopted resolution and supporting study should explain the approved rate schedule and financial assumptions, rather than residents relying on an estimated percentage repeated without the exact service category.
Does every household pay the same amount?
Not necessarily. A wastewater bill may be affected by service classification, meter or billing rules, equivalent dwelling unit calculations, fixed charges and other factors prescribed by the city’s adopted rates. This article does not calculate a property owner’s new bill because the authoritative amount depends on the actual account and the full fee schedule.
What should a customer compare?
Request the previous fee schedule, the newly adopted 2026–2030 schedule and the rate study’s description of capital work and operating costs. Distinguish between costs projected over five years and actual spending or completed infrastructure. If a customer has concerns about billing, hardship programs or a specific property classification, request the city’s applicable instructions directly.
Is a rate change the same as a rehabilitation project?
No. The city also lists a separate 2026-01 Bennett Engineering contract award related to wastewater rehabilitation plans. A rate resolution provides a financial framework; an engineering contract concerns design work. Neither proves that all repairs have been completed. Follow later bids, construction notices and council minutes to understand actual progress.
How can residents follow up?
Review Resolution 2026-14 and the Sewer Rate Adjustment Report and contact City Hall at 707-882-2122 or admin@pointarena.ca.gov. Property owners should ask for a written account-specific explanation rather than treat a newspaper report as an official bill.
